Dwight Palmer, age 74 died Wednesday September 18, 2019, at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Dwight was born September 24, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Thurman and the late Vera (nee Maxwell).

Dwight was raised in Detroit, however spent some of his childhood in Tennessee where he has additional family. As a child in Detroit he enjoyed going to the beach and ice skating at Belle Isle with his sister Barbara and his many friends.

As a proud and grateful Nation we acknowledge Dwight who served honorably in the United States Navy as a submariner during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Later in life Dwight could not have been prouder of his grandson Tyler and nephew Zachary Wilder who both followed in his footsteps as they joined the United States Navy.

After his service in the Navy, Dwight chose a career as a printer first at Pepsi Cola then at small local print shops. He worked for many years at American Speedy Printing until he retired.

He was a quiet, gentle and caring man with a good sense of humor. He was hard to get to know but if you took the trouble to speak and listen to him you found a friend for life.

Dwight enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, target shooting, baseball, playing poker and going to the movies. Additionally Dwight was a member of the American Legion and the NRA.

Dwight is Survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lillian (nee Vermiglio) Palmer, and his son, Stephen Dwight (Renee)Palmer. Further survivors include his dear grandson Stephen Tyler Palmer, and many loving family members. Dwight was predeceased by his father, Thurman Palmer; his mother, Vera (Alfred) Marzetta, and his sister Barbara (Edward) Novak.

He will be fondly remembered by friends and family from Michigan and Tennessee including his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
